The Halal Assessment Council (HAC) of Sri Lanka has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Halal Science Center at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. This agreement was formalized on August 28, 2024, during an official visit by the Sri Lankan delegation, with arrangements made by the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo.
The MOU highlights a strategic collaboration aimed at utilizing the advanced testing services provided by the Halal Science Center. These services include testing for ethanol content, porcine detection, and other essential analyses, ensuring the quality and compliance of Sri Lankan Halal-certified products intended for export to GCC countries.
The partnership builds on past cooperation, notably in 2019 when the Halal Science Center’s testing helped address contamination allegations against Sri Lankan milk powder, reassuring consumers. The event, attended by prominent figures such as Sri Lankan Ambassador Mrs. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe and Egyptian Ambassador Mrs. Hala Youssef Ahmed Ragab, included a tour of the Halal Forensic Science Laboratory, showcasing the center’s advanced capabilities.
