Russia Implements Strategic Actions to Develop its Halal Industry

In a bid to ramp up food exports to Muslim countries, Russia has recently adopted its first nationwide halal standards. The system intends to improve the quality of halal products and services, offer guarantee fair competition for Russian-made halal products and eliminate technical trade barriers.

Over the past three years, Russia has managed to double the export of products that meet the Halal standard.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia’s chief food safety organization, the current global market of halal food is estimated to be close to $2 trillion and is estimated to reach $3.5 trillion by 2024.

In 2021, Russia supplied halal products worth a record of $180 million to Persian Gulf Countries alone. In 2022, halal food exports increased by 24% compared to the previous year, amounting to 129,000. Russia is the second-largest supplier of Halal poultry to the Middle East.

This is aided by the range of opportunities and potentials offered through the halal industry’s growth in Russia – which extends beyond food products. Moreover, Russia’s collaboration with Muslim-majority countries such as Tajikistan signifies a broader strategy to strengthen economic ties and explore mutual benefits.

Russia expects to increase the export of halal products to Arab countries and reach $400 million by 2024.
