In Anne Arundel County, a new Halal restaurant has established two new locations. To celebrate, the late-night eatery is giving away free food.
Customers in Odenton and Glen Burnie can get one complimentary chicken, lamb, or combination rice dish per person from noon to 2 p.m., or while supplies last. Every day at 10:30 a.m., the restaurant opens. On Sundays through Thursdays, the late-night establishment is open until 2 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, it stays open until 4 a.m.
Halal food, which means “permissible” in Arabic, is food that is permissible under Islamic law.
Naz’s Halal Food serves gyros, falafel, and kebabs. For dessert, there is also baklava on the menu. Wings, burgers, and fries are among the American options.
The Odenton restaurant is located at 1147 Annapolis Road, between H&R Block and Dollar Tree, in the Odenton Shopping Center. This takes the place of a dry cleaner.
The Glen Burnie location is at 7509 Ritchie Highway, right next to Honey Bee Liquors. The eating room is flanked by two murals in that restaurant. The left wall features a word cloud with flavor descriptors and gyros images. A black-and-white panoramic of a metropolitan skyline is displayed on the right wall.
In 2009, Kareem Mohmend and his cousin, Naz, founded Naz’s Halal Food. The company began as a food truck in Queens, New York.
The cousins were both teachers at the same New York City public school, thus the food truck began as a side project.
As the company’s customer base increased, the partners decided to create their first physical presence in 2018. That flagship location in North Babylon, New York, is still serving Long Island clients.
Naz’s Halal Food began franchising, allowing the company to open other restaurants in New York, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
