For the first time in 20 years, British Airways has updated the uniforms worn by its employees. According to the airline, will allow female cabin personnel to choose on from a jumpsuit and a tunic.
For women who don’t want to wear a jumpsuit, there are dress, skirt, and trouser choices as well as a fitted three-piece suit for males. Unlike Virgin Atlantic, a competitor airline, British Airways chose to prohibit male pilots and crew from wearing skirts.
British Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng created the outfits after spending time observing BA employees in their jobs at the airline.
Over the previous four years, with covert experiments in the air and on the ground, more than 1,500 British Airways employees provided input on the collection’s design and testing.
The new uniform will be worn for the first time by the airline’s engineers and ground personnel starting in the spring. By the summer of this year, all British Airways flight attendants, pilots, and check-in agents will be wearing the new uniform instead of the old one.
