Two Malay/Muslim organizations have introduced a new post-graduate scholarship for all women in Singapore

As part of ongoing initiatives to better assist women in this country in achieving their ambitions, a new $15,000 post-graduate scholarship for women was introduced on Tuesday.

The scholarship will be awarded to one recipient yearly beginning in 2023 and will last for ten years. It is worth a total of $150,000 and is co-funded by the social services organization Singapore Muslim Women’s Association (PPIS) and the organization that distributes bursaries Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud.

Although a part-time program is permitted locally, applicants must be enrolled full-time in a postgraduate degree leading to a master’s or PhD. In addition to other pertinent possibilities, they can pursue the following academic specialties: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); women’s studies; gerontology; geriatrics; and community service. The application period will start in June 2023.

Additionally, beneficiaries of scholarships will need to volunteer for PPIS.

At the PPIS 70th anniversary gala dinner at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the scholarship and pointed out that it encompasses fields with a traditionally male predominance, like stem. He has said, “I hope that through these efforts, we can continue to grow the number of female role models for the Malay/Muslim community and we can truly show that there are no limits to what women can achieve here in Singapore”.

According to PPIS President Hazlina Abdul Halim, one of the top five personal goals of Muslim women in this country is to enhance their education or acquire new skills, according to a research that the organization published earlier this year. She said, “This post-graduate scholarship is for today’s women to realise their aspirations, so Singapore will be a better home for the women of tomorrow,”.
