The England and Wales Cricket board (ECB) has teamed up with Nujum sports to increase Muslim participation in the sports, a move that England legend Moeen Ali has endorsed.
Nujum Sports provides training workshops and educational to Muslim athletes through sports clubs, local and national organizations, and national sporting authorities. It has also spent the last year advising the ECB on what kind of year-round support Muslim cricketers require. From grassroots cricket to elite cricket, the relationship will assist the ECB in focusing on the need of Muslim players and communities, as well as larger staff, player and club education programs.
Founder and CEO of Nujum Sports, Ebadur Rahman said, “Cricket deserves to be loved and played by everyone. Equity, diversity and inclusion aren’t checklists we need to tick off but rather tools to help us in today’s ever-demanding world.”
Last year, Nujum released the Muslim Athlete Charter, a set of principals encouraging sports organization to make it easier for Muslim athletes. It includes features such as providing a location for Muslim players to pray, serving halal food, and allowing them to fast without judgement or hindrance during Ramadan.
