On March 10, 2022, the Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, H.E. Mr. Yerlan Alimzhanuly Baidaulet, met with the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), Dr. Taieb Baccouche, in the Kingdom of Morocco.
AMU was formed as a continental group by the five North African member nations (Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania) to pursue shared policies on trade, defence, and international relations.
Following the day’s program, the Director General met with Dr. Salem bin Muhammad Al-Malik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
Furthermore, the parties discussed prospects for collaboration between the two organizations in the realm of technology and innovation, with the goal of increasing production and improving the genetic traits of plants and animals in order to contribute to the Islamic world’s food self-sufficiency.
Following a brief presentation on the IOFS’s missions, mandates, and programs, the two parties discussed potential avenues and prospects for expanding partnership relations through the private sector. In this regard, the IOFS Director General proposed expanding the capacity of the FCMCIS toward greater openness to foreign investment and thus inviting all its members to by establishing a partnership with the International Islamic Food Processing Association (IFPA).
