Halal Innovation as Malaysia Pursues International Leadership

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that foreign manufacturers wishing to produce goods in Malaysia and obtain halal certification will receive support from government agencies. He highlighted the credibility of the Islamic Development Department’s (Jakim) halal logo, particularly for companies from countries like China looking to utilize it on their products. The Halal Development Corporation and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) will facilitate these foreign investments and assist in employing local talent.

During his remarks at the World Halal Business Conference 2024, held in conjunction with the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas), Ahmad Zahid emphasized Malaysia’s readiness to share its expertise in issuing halal certificates with other nations. He noted that the relocation of certain international companies to Malaysia could significantly enhance the country’s export value and create additional job opportunities.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced plans for Mihas to expand its presence in the Middle East and North Africa by organizing an exhibition in Dubai. This international debut aims to generate export sales of RM1 billion, a goal he is confident Malaysian companies can achieve. Furthermore, Tengku Zafrul mentioned that his ministry, in collaboration with Matrade, will lead Malaysia’s participation in the Osaka World Expo in Japan and other ASEAN-related programs, promoting international business opportunities in line with the National Trade Blueprint and Malaysia’s ambitions as a global halal hub.
