Dubai has begun construction of the world’s first underwater floating mosque. The mosque, to be built at a total cost of 55 United Arab Emirates Durhams (MVR 230 million), was announced at a ceremony held to announce the Islamic Affairs Affairs affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) Religious Tourism Project. According to maskit’s concept paintings, the temple will be built on three floors.
The first and second floors of the mosque will be above the sea. While the first floor will have a seating space for men and a coffee shop, the second floor will have two separate spaces for women to sit. It’s both indoor and outdoor.
The underwater portion of the mosque is reserved for prayers. There will be 50 to 75 people offering prayers at a time, while there will be wudhu and toilets.
There is no official word on the exact date of commencement of construction of the mosque or the site where the mosque will be built. However, IACAD’s Ahmed al-Mansoor said the mosque would be built near the beach, where a bridge could reach the mosque.
