The proprietor of an alcohol-free tavern has praised the neighborhood’s “phenomenal and amazing” support since the establishment. Sam Watson, an alcoholic in recovery, came up with the concept for Dry Dock in Weymouth after realizing there was nowhere to go in the evenings that didn’t sell alcohol.
The pub has a dartboard, pool table, and jukebox, as well as everything else you might find in a typical bar. Since the facility debuted last month, according to Mr. Watson, it has been a “success”. The community interest firm Dry Dock was founded in a former optical clinic with the mission of assisting those dealing with mental illness, addiction, and loneliness.
The amount of people coming through the door and the wonderful remarks we’ve received have been amazing, according to Mr. Watson, who added that the welcome we’ve had from our community has been “absolutely phenomenal.”So far, it’s worked out well; we can maintain opening our doors every day. “We are really making a go of it; we’ve put together a really positive plan of events over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas in the hopes that we can hopefully keep building that momentum moving forward.” This is for the community, and as long as we can pay the bills and our staff, we are happy to keep operating.
