The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) within the Davao Region, in collaboration with the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) of Davao, has formally introduced the groundbreaking Research and Innovation Center for Halal Science (RICHeS). This pioneering initiative aims to elevate the Halal industry in the Philippines through the promotion of advanced research, creative initiatives, and initiatives focused on building capabilities.
Professor Vicente Antonio Pijano III, the Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer of PC, conveyed his excitement regarding the center’s launch. He stated, “This event signifies the unwavering dedication of DOST and PWC to propel the Halal ecosystem to new heights. As we inaugurate this center and embark on a transformative journey, it is crucial to acknowledge that our combined endeavors have the potential to shape the future of the Halal industry and establish a benchmark of excellence on the global stage.”
Dr. Anthony Sales, the DOST-Davao Regional Director, emphasized the center’s inception and its importance. He explained, “The establishment of this Center originated as a dream, born out of the realization of the necessity for intensified research and capacity enhancement for stakeholders in the Halal industry. When we were consulted for the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act, we put forward the idea of establishing Halal research and training facilities as part of the DOST program.”
