Celine Yeo’s younger brother, Kevin, has always had a deep love for Italy and frequently includes it in his travel plans. On a trip to Umbria in 2015, Kevin decided to explore beyond the usual tourist spots and visited Spoleto, an ancient city known for its natural and hilly landscape.
During his time in Spoleto, Kevin met Mirko, a third-generation farm owner and Italian businessman. Both being food enthusiasts, they quickly bonded over local wine and prosciutto. Mirko showed Kevin great hospitality by taking him to his farms and teaching him the art of truffle hunting.
Kevin and Mirko maintained their friendship and eventually became co-owners of a truffle farm. Kevin’s desire to import and sell the truffles in Singapore was hindered by his full-time job in logistics, which left him with limited time to manage a side business.
In 2020, Kevin was ready to launch his truffle business, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans. However, in October 2022, he seized the opportunity and, with the support of his sister Celine as the sales and marketing director, founded Craft Truffles. The brand specializes in gourmet truffle-made condiments and food items.
Craft Truffles currently offers nine products, including their signature truffle-infused mayonnaise, truffle oil, black truffle butter, and truffle with Acacia honey. All the products are made in Italy using freshly harvested truffles from the farm co-owned by Kevin and Mirko.
Celine emphasized that truffles have a short shelf life and start losing their flavor once picked. This is why importing them to Singapore would compromise their quality. To ensure freshness, Craft Truffles processes the truffles immediately after harvesting. Co-owning a truffle farm in Italy allows them to eliminate intermediaries, making their products more affordable. Additionally, it guarantees a steady and reliable supply of truffles throughout the year.
Celine explained that while wild truffles are usually harvested with the help of animals like hogs or dogs, farmed truffles do not involve animals. This enables Craft Truffles to obtain Halal certification for all their products, making them accessible to a wider community.
Celine expressed their intention to disrupt the market by offering affordable products, enhancing accessibility, and introducing different flavors to truffle enthusiasts.
