Dina Ibrahim, a 22-year-old entrepreneur from Calgary, has founded HYAT CO., the first hijab brand to be sold at Winners and Marshalls stores across Canada. Her goal is to make hijabs more accessible to Muslim women in Canada who previously had to wait for a trip back home, seek out ethnic clothing stores, or pay high shipping fees from American companies to buy new hijabs. With the availability of HYAT CO. hijabs at Winners and Marshalls, Muslim women can easily purchase them while shopping for shoes or makeup. The brand celebrates all types of women and aims to be flattering for all body types and skin colors, offering a variety of hijabs made from sustainable fabrics. Ibrahim hopes to expand HYAT CO.’s product line to include affordable modest dresses. The company’s launch into brick-and-mortar stores was made possible by Ibrahim’s $10,000 win from MRU’s JMH LaunchPad pitch competition, which funded packaging, products, shipping, and marketing.
