As religious Muslims, women who use make-up, must remove the product and wash their faces at least three times a day before prayers. It is a must wash hands, mouth, nose, face, arms, head, ears and feet to perform Wudu before prayers five times a day.
Suraiya Waeusang has created the perfect solution for this issue. Nine years ago, she came up with the idea of a halal skincare, a cosmetic brand called Celine.
Suraiya explains that there were very few Halal brands in the market in Pattani in recent years, and they were unpopular and unfamiliar to her. “The thought occurred to me that I should create my own halal skincare and cosmetic line after having so many reactions to foreign products,” she says. She Initially created the cosmetic products for herself, looking for an opportunity to earn her own money. But later on decided to launch her products on a wider scale after receiving numerous requests for help from her followers on Facebook.
Suraiya consulted with dermatologists and factories to produce a halal moisturiser and sunscreen testers for her sensitive skin. And was satisfied with the results after testing on her own skin. Suraiya then sent the product to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval. After a year-long process of thorough checking, the brand Celine, is currently registered as a halal skincare by the FDA and approved by the Halal Science Center.
Suraiya explains that all her products meet all the processes including preparation, producing, packing and transportation must meet the halal hygienic standard.
Currently, Celine has over 40 products, with the anti-ageing skincare being the most popular one to sell . In 2017, Celine won the Top Brand Awards organised by the Press Committee Club of Thailand and the Business Press Club. Suraiya has now expanded her business by employing over 40 sales representatives.
Over the course of nine years, Suraiya has reached out to a wide range of customers through Facebook and in person and uses online platforms to promote her products and intend to improve and expand her business on the online platforms.
