This year’s ‘Top Muslim-Friendly Emerging Destination’ at the Halal in Travel Awards was won by Spain. Held in Singapore this time, this awarding ceremony honors and celebrates the travel industry’s work that contributes to the development of Muslim lifestyle travel segments.
Spain was acknowledged for their attempts in boosting halal awareness levels which led to an increase in halal-friendly services. Singapore’s Spain ambassador Santiago Miralles, and director of Spain Tourism Board for Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australia, Monica Sanchez were present to receive this prestigious award for their country.
Ambassador Miralles stated that the increase in Halal services offered in Spain are because of the joint efforts between the public and private sectors. Many accommodations, dining and other establishments in Spain cater to Muslim tourists. Several products and services are also halal certified by the Halal Institute which guarantees that they meet the standards of the Islamic Law.
Not only that, but Spain also has some beautiful mosques, lavish Islamic estates, mesmerizing sceneries, and a spirited cultural life. Furthermore, Spanish cities such as Granada and Cordoba are popular during Ramadan as many Muslims stay there for the long hours of sunlight. Some Spanish institutes also organize certain events specially for Muslims during Ramadan.
