World Food Safety Day in Pakistan

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority in Peshawar, which is a city in Pakistan, celebrated World Food Safety Day throughout the district. Several events such as seminars and walks were carried out to raise awareness of the importance of safe and healthy food practices to the people of Pakistan.

The divisional office in Peshawar organized the main event of the day that many food-handlers, food safety officials and owners of some food related businesses attended. The authority’s Director of Operations Altaf Hussain addressed the event, stating that the hospital burdens could be reduced with quality food as it will lessen the risk of contracting a number of food-borne diseases. He also said that the authority strives to obtain and improve the quality of food items in Peshawar. Moreover, frequent training sessions for food handlers were arranged along with mobile food testing laboratories covering the seven divisional headquarters.

In the meantime, the divisional office Mardan held an awareness walk which the whole community participated in. There were banners and flyers highlighting the importance of quality and safe food. After the walk, a formal event was addressed by the Deputy Director Mardan Division Kamran Khan by appreciating the trade unions for their teamwork with the authority in making sure the people of Pakistan are aware of the course.

In Swabi, another city in Pakistan, a seminar was held at the University of Swabi in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture on safe and healthy foods’ significance.

Furthermore, the city of Mansehra organized food safety awareness sessions in numerous schools.
