Aishat Kadyrova, the daughter of Ramzan Kadyrov, president of Russia’s Muslim-majority Chechen Republic, has been under pressure to dispel media speculation about the corporation she supervises.
Kadyrova issued a statement on her social media profile on Saturday in an attempt to clear the air about Firdaws, one of the most recognized companies in Russia’s booming modest fashion sector.
In response to local media stories that an income inspectorate in Russia had launched enforcement actions against by the corporation for non-payment of a minor amount of taxes, Kadyrova stated that Firdaws’ accounts had been banned due to non-payment in December, but that the company had completely funded the remaining balance in January, trying to settle the debts.
Kadyrova cited “an mistake by the chief accountant” on her Instagram page and stated that “as soon as the issue was detected, the amount was quickly returned.”
She also revealed why the brand’s outlets in Moscow, Grozny, Chechnya’s capital, and Makhachkala, the capital of the neighboring Muslim-majority Republic of Dagestan, were shuttered . She explained that the fashion house’s manufacturing facilities are now under construction and added that “as soon as these works are done, the Firdaws boutiques will reopen their doors to clients.” The brand’s press department announced on Thursday that production had been halted “for operational reasons and due to the sickness of half of the cutters and seamstresses.”
Firdaws, which bills itself as the Chechen Republic’s first “national fashion brand,” was founded in Grozny in 2009 by Medni Kadyrova, the spouse of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. The trademark is influenced by the traditional Vainakh ethnic attire as well as the Koranic ideals. Medni Kadyrova delegated leadership of Firdaws to her daughter Aishat in 2016. Aishat has also served as Chechnya’s Minister of Culture from October of last year.
The brand debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia in Moscow in 2017. It first emerged a few years ago at a show in Dubai, when the brand is said to have gathered up orders from UAE clients. Firdaws’ representative at the time, Ulzana Zadulayeva, told Reuters that the company planned to expand into additional Middle Eastern nations, including Bahrain. Firdaws also sells menswear, couture dresses, and children’s clothing in addition to womenswear.
Kadyrova traveled to Paris in early 2020 to display the women’s Autumn/Winter 2020/2021 ready-to-wear collection, just before the outbreak of covid-19 began.
