Urban Skillet Brings Halal Burger Spot To Minneapolis

The uncertainty surrounding the Minneapolis restaurant sector hasn’t stopped two entrepreneurs from bringing a distinctive diner to Uptown next month.

Mohammed had been taken to Urban Skillet in Los Angeles by a relative. Mohammed was so taken with the burger that he approached the owner, Azeem Farooq.

“He tried my food and was like, ‘Dude, I got to figure out how to open this in Minnesota,’” Farooq said.

Since then, the two Muslim men have been collaborating to get the Uptown property on Hennepin Avenue ready.

They are concerned about the city’s new vaccination and testing regulations for dining, but they believe takeaway and delivery will be more popular. They also feel that the people of Minneapolis will support them.

Mohammed says he selected Uptown because he enjoys the location and the people. Concerns about crime did not play a significant role in the decision.

Urban Skillet burgers are 100% halal and they open February 14. There are still job openings available to fill out the 10-person staff.
