From February 8, Muslims in Malaysia can continue their umrah pilgrimages.
Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said the Cabinet took the decision after the umrah was postponed due to the spread of the Omicron variety.
Nancy stated that the government had no plans to extend the postponement, which had been in effect since January 8, and that after negotiations with all key parties, including umrah travel agencies, a new standard operating procedure (SOP) would be published.
“The new SOP will be discussed with umrah travel agencies because we want to make sure that returnees will get to decide where to be undergo quarantine,” she said.
