Dr. Iman grew up in Ohio, and her household was filled with the unending love and kindness shown to her and her four siblings by the people of Ohio.
Dr. Iman quickly recognized Afghanistan’s treasures. Every bite of the diverse foods they shared each day at the dinner table was packed with culture, traditions, love, and warmth. Imanistan is a place where beautiful cultures and rich traditions can be preserved and shared with the rest of the world.
Dr. Iman comes from a cooking family that dates back three generations. Her grandma studied food science and taught her mother the intricacies of perfecting traditional Afghan meals. Dr. Iman stayed close to her mother’s side, learning, and questioning every move she made in the kitchen.
Dr. Iman studied for her PhD at Northwestern University, where she learned about the community’s difficulties, the beauty of its people, and the intricacies in between. She began combining her research skills with her passion, expanding her knowledge of food science as she independently studied how to perfect some of her favorite American dishes, realizing that the knowledge she had inherited from her mother and grandmother was an invaluable foundation on which she had built.
Dr. Iman hopes to enable you to experience the warmth and affection of Afghan culture, traditions, and foods in your own home through Imanistan.
