Dubai Modest Fashion Week organized by Think Fashion hosted their third edition on November 18th at the Rixos Premium Dubai, JBR. This year’s annual event focused on the topic of “awakening,” which was addressed through the works of more than 40 exclusively selected designers who displayed a range of ensembles perfectly timed with city openings.
We interviewed some brands and designers who took part in the Dubai Modest Fashion Week to learn more about modest fashion craftmanship and what it has to offer.
Thread Palette London is a fashion firm that aims to provide customers with modest yet fashionable clothing. A firm founded by two women who grew up in different parts of the world.
Our brand takes pride in having artisans from around the world onboard our design team, each bringing in their diverse and unique ideas to the board, collectively creating masterpieces. During the design process, the inspirations of each creative, involved in the process, are derived from their individual surroundings, their climate, their moods etc. Apart from that, for certain pieces we have specific themes. For instance, for the DMFW, we had the London-Dubai theme. Some of our pieces have illustrations and intricate hand embroidery based on the theme.
As a brand we are conscious of not mass-producing products, focusing on quality of material and stitching, to produce items that are long lasting. Pieces that are statement pieces and can last in your wardrobe for a while.
We received a great response to our entire collection. The London-Dubai themed dresses have been a huge hit since the show. Our black Abaya with the Dubai Skyline hand embroidered on the back has also received a fabulous response.
Salayfa was founded in 2017 by a mother and her four children, each with their own unique perspective on modest design. Salayfa’s aim is to assist women in finding beautiful and flattering clothing without compromising their particular ethics and beliefs.
We were especially inspired by the concept of freedom of expression. We believe that modest fashion is for all women to cover themselves to the extent that they wish to, which is why we strive to make sure our designs are wearable by all women. Our current collection is inspired by the sky – specifically night and dusk. Of course, the color black is a central theme of the night sky, however the colors of dusk are a beautiful sight to behold.
We believe that it is important to make clothing that is of high quality and will last long. Globally, there is 92 million tons of textile waste. We don’t believe in fast fashion where items are thrown away after being just once or twice. We also don’t necessarily follow what is on trend but prefer to have timeless designs.
We have found that different designs are popular depending on where they are selling. From our new collection, the sleeveless kimonos are quite popular, as well as our abayas, free size kimonos and signature capes.
POCA & POCA is a young fashion business founded in Poland by the outstanding sister and sibling duo Karolina and Wiktor Gniewek. POCA & POCA creates extraordinary pieces for the enchanting woman, personifying her unique and distinctive sense of style.
Modesty, simplicity, refinement, and elegance all rolled into one – we think these adjectives reflect the nature of sustainable fashion best.
In fashion, you have to be bold and resolute. You can experiment but you should keep your brand’s DNA at the same time. The fashion industry is not only about craftsmanship, but also a passion to create something unique – it is important to combine creativity with crafts.
In a way, trends are some kinds of determinant of what is on top at the moment. Collections shouldn’t be based only on actual trends. We strive to ensure that our collections are faithful to our assumptions and the style that we have been developing for several years. We don’t blindly follow trends and believe that this makes us unique.

Basically, Heaven Lights regularly have casual daily products for daily wear (shirt, pants, hijab, dress, tunic, etc.) The characters of our product are timeless cutting with a unique twist in every single product. And for DMFW, we present our signature collection that is inspired from quintessence.
Absolutely yes. We launch our daily product 3 times in 1 week. Well, one of our motivations is being able to empower the people around us. So, it’s not only about growing the brand and providing customer needs, but hopefully we can become a brand that has benefits for many people and inspires.
Gathering information to nourish my mind and to inspire my next collection is easily be done by viewing myriad selections of vintage styles on the internet or even browsing through the latest editions of travel and fashion magazines. However, there is nothing more satisfying is going to museums and looking at art to provide the best sources of inspiration for me!
Israel Kasnett offers to the refined, smart, and regal woman looking for exquisite, modest, and high-quality apparel. Their brand’s mission is to revive class and rethink the concept of modesty and luxury.
Fashion is the freedom of expression through apparel. Yes, there are trends, but not every individual fits the mold. My philosophy is: wear whatever makes you feel and look better (within social norms of course). So, in essence, fashion is what you want it to be.
The most important facet of the fashion industry is the customer, without whom there is no industry. That being said, it is also important for designers and manufacturers to work hard to create fabrics and designs that are wearable and that appeal to customers. So many designs are ugly and unappealing, and designers are doing nothing but a disservice to customers who seek beautiful, or at least wearable, clothes.
Naturally I keep track of the runway shows as well as the trade shows, but in actuality, I aim to buck the trends. I look at what is missing in the market and I then try to fill that gap within my own niche, which is modest, luxury clothing for elegant women.
