World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation (WIEF) and Wasabih are teaming up to host a virtual session about the blue economy named ‘Diving into the Deep Blue’.
This event is being held in order to gain a better understanding of the blue economy as a form of Islamic capital market fundraising tool.
Despite its early stages, the blue economy is one of the Islamic capital market fundraising tools that will not only contribute to the protection and sustainable use of oceans through investment in the blue economy but will also contribute to ocean perseverance. It has sparked a lot of interest in blue financing, which is critical for coastal areas that heavily rely on the ocean for food, tourism, and livelihoods. This session will also look at the overall part of Islamic fintech landscape that can play a vital role in helping this sustainable agenda as well as pinpointing opportunities that can support the SDGs.
This session will have themes such as ‘Perspectives on relevant stakeholders commitment to ensuring marine biodiversity protection while maintaining business profitability’, ‘Current market trend and assets under management (AUM)’, ‘How to attract more institutional investors’, and ‘Opportunities and potential for blue sukuk in the Asian region’.
Some key speakers in this session include Stella Cox CBE, Managing Director of DDCAP Group™, Angelique Pouponneau, Chief Executive Officer of SeyCCAT (Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust), Kemal Rizadi Arbi, Advisor of Capital Market Authority, Ramesh Kana, Chairperson of United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Network, and Vineeta Tan (Moderator), Managing Editor & Director of REDmoney Group.
The Powertalk is scheduled for 30 November 2021 at 3:00PM (GMT +8) via Zoom.
