Indonesia should expand global market for halal fashion products: VP

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has called for Indonesia to eye global-level expansion of the halal fashion market by revving up promotions and boosting marketing potential, including through the digital market or marketplace.

“This is a great opportunity for developing and expanding the Indonesian fashion market throughout the world,” Vice President Amin stated while opening the online Indonesia Industrial Moslem Exhibition (II Motion) from Jakarta, Thursday.

The vice president remarked that expanding the halal fashion market in various foreign countries was based on increased consumer demand for clothing among the world’s Muslim community.

“The world’s Muslim community’s spending on modest fashion reached US$277 billion, an increase of 4.2 percent, from the previous year and is estimated to reach US$311 billion in 2024,” Amin noted.

Moreover, the vice president affirmed that the increase in demand for global halal fashion products can boost the presence of Indonesian fashion designers, communities, and fashion associations to work in various countries.

While drawing reference to the World Population Review data, Amin noted that the world’s Muslim population currently reached 1.9 billion, of which 229 million were Indonesians. A total of 229 million Indonesian Muslims constitute 87.2 percent of the entire 276.3-million population in Indonesia.

“This shows that Indonesia has vast market potential for Muslim products. We certainly really want Indonesia to also become the largest producer and exporter of halal products in the world,” Vice President Amin emphasized.

In addition to fashion, consumer demand rose for halal cosmetics among the world’s Muslim community, reaching US$66 billion, or an increase of 3.4 percent.
