Vaccinated Saudis and those who have recovered from COVID-19 will be allowed to travel abroad as of 1 a.m. from May 17, the Saudi Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced in a statement.
The borders will reopen for Saudi citizens travelling abroad just a few days after Eid al Fitr that will be around May 13.
Citizens allowed to travel are those who have received both coronavirus shots or one shot at least 14 days before they travel, and those who have recovered from COVID-19 within the last six months.
Citizens under the age of 18 must present travel insurance approved by the central bank before they can travel.
Saudi Arabia closed its borders in March last year to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
In January it postponed a planned Mar 31 reopening of land, sea and air borders to May 17 due to delays in the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines. Authorities aim to get most of the population vaccinated before allowing international travel.
