Bangladesh is set to become a member of the International Halal Accreditation Forum (IHAF) with the submission of its application after taking approval from the cabinet.

Predominately a Muslim country with a population of more than 170 million, the destination is aiming to reach its target of increasing export to USD 80 billion from the existing USD 40 billion as part of becoming a developed country as well as the development goals; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-2030, and Vision 2041.

In a report by Dhakatribune, it states that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) will be accepted across the world once the destination becomes a member of the IHAF. Bangladesh hopes to penetrate into the global halal market as it has the potential to be a major player. As a result, the Government is providing all kinds of support to expand the Bangladesh halal products’ market.

Bangladesh is also trying to get membership of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC).
