Indonesia’s Bintan and Batam Keen to Form a Travel Bubble with Singapore

Indonesia is keen on forming a travel bubble with Singapore for Bintan and Batam, according to the Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

Uno said after a meeting with Batam officials on Saturday that the country plans to start reopening tourist spots in Lagoi on Bintan and Nongsa in Batam. The proposed “safe travel corridor” might take place as early as April 21 and is meant for Singaporeans to holiday in Indonesia and not vice versa.

“Both areas have limited access to the general public making it possible to implement a travel bubble,” he explained.

Hotels, restaurants, and attractions in the destinations have been CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability) certified. However, Batam is taking its health and safety efforts a step further by inviting Singaporean authorities overseeing hygiene standards assessments to review the implemented protocols in the region.

Singaporeans and other foreign tourists who want to enter the two areas would have to show a negative PCR test result. The Government of Indonesia has built an app to track the movement of tourists in Nongsa and Bintan Lagoi.
