When in France | The Pink Lakes of Salin de Giraud

We’re pretty sure most of us would have heard about pink lakes before seeing them for real. These stunning beauties are a marvel to the sight and is a good place to take a few quick clicks. For those who are planning to visit France soon, guess what? There is a pink lake in Salin de Giraud, France, which you can visit!

A pink lake is a body of water that has the red or pink pigmentation. This is often caused by the presence of algae that produces carotenoids in order to protect themselves from the sun. Keep in mind, its always not pink. But when it is, it offers a stunning and aesthetically pleasing sight!

Salin de Giraud is one hour and 30 minutes away from Aix-en-Provence. There a salt pans (man made evaporation ponds) near the lake, which allows to collect the salt from the seawater from March to September and harvest it between August and October.

Hop on-board the ‘Petit Train’ tour around the marshes that goes operates from March to November at Salins de Giraud. The one and half hour long tour will give an insight into the pink lakes and you will get the chance to capture a few photographs before the tour is over. Lines are normally very long for this tour, hence, its always a wise idea to prepare and plan ahead.
